The General Councilors visit Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

The canonical pastoral visit to the fraternities will last the whole month of April 2016.

Three members of the General Council of the OFM Cap. - Br. Sergio Dal Moro, Br. Hugo Mejía Morales and Br. Jaime Rei, will remain in Rio Grande do Sul during the whole of the month of April 2016 to carry out the canonical pastoral visitation to 25 Capuchin fraternities. The brother Councilors will participate in meetings in the Provinces and will have a chance to dialogue with each friar.

The visitations will be accompanied by the Provincial Minister of the Capuchins of RS, Br. Cleonir Dalbosco, by the Provincial Vicar, Br. Nilmar Gatto, and by Councilor Br. Luiz Turra.

The purpose of the visitation is to strengthen the unity and the communion of all the friars with the Order, animation for the Provinces and orientation on the guidelines that they will follow. The Councilors in Rome make a visit like this every six years to each place where we live today, in 108 countries. In Brazil the Order is organized into 10 Provinces and 2 Custodies, for a total of 1,100 friars. Latin America and the Caribbean is made up of 30 Provinces, 5 Custodies, and 2 Delegations.

Br. Cleonir Dalbosco expressed his joy in welcoming the Councilors in this moment when the friars are celebrating 120 years since the arrival of the first Franciscan friars in their state. "For us Capuchin friars of RS, this represents the visit of St. Francis. It is an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of communion with the Order, to review and to evaluate what we are doing," emphasizes the Provincial Minister. Beyond the fraternities and the pastoral works, the friar visitators will see also what is happening in social projects, like Fonte Colombo, Lefan, as well as the School of Theology, the printing offices, radio stations, parishes, and missions.
