Saint Bonaventure of Bagnoregio

On July 15, 2024, on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the death of St. Bonaventure, the city of Bagnoregio wished to confer honorary citizenship on the Franciscan Family.

The decision stems from the feeling of deep affection and gratitude that has bound the city with the Franciscan family for eight hundred years now, having welcomed a community of Friars Minor while St. Francis was still alive and then becoming the birthplace of St. Bonaventure, who so marked the history of the Order of Friars and Franciscan theology.

The event was held in the afternoon, at the Taborra Auditorium, with a lecture on St. Bonaventure given by Br. Massimo Fusarelli, General Minister OFM, which was followed by the conferring of the honor by Mayor Luca Profili to the hands of Br. Massimo. Afterwards, in the co-cathedral church, Msgr. Orazio Francesco Piazza, Bishop of Viterbo, presided over a concelebration of thanksgiving. May the event, which speaks of today's attention to the Saint on the part of the civic community, also arouse in us a renewed attention to the figure of St. Bonaventure, as already indicated in the letter that the General Ministers of the First Order addressed to the entire Franciscan Family on February 2, 2024.
