During the week of October 9-14, 2023, a meeting of the Capuchins of India will be held in Bharananganam, Kerala. The meeting will be attended by more than 100 brothers, including the General Minister, General Council, Provincials and Councillors from 12 Provinces, Custodes and Councillors from 2 Custodies, and Provincial Delegates from 5 Delegations.
This meeting of Capuchins in India aims to open avenues for truly listening to one another and sharing the richness of our charism. The theme chosen for the meeting is “From Assisi to Sardhana and beyond...: the Capuchin journey in minority, poverty and fraternity.” An eye-catching logo meticulously crafted in Franciscan colors and spirit by Brother Saji Varghese of St. Francis Province, Kerala, will stand out conspicuously over the meeting. Of particular importance is the city of Sardhana, home of the first Capuchin novitiate in India, symbolizing the uniqueness and unity of the Indian Capuchin charism.
The meeting should express the richness of diversity in our charism, as well as the interconnectedness of India with the whole Order (in our modern, globalized world, distances are shortening).
By way of preparation, a month of prayer has begun for the success of this singular event. The prayer, composed by Brother Anil Sequeira of Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka, is being recited in all the Capuchin fraternities in India from September 10th onward.
This prayer in unison among all the fraternities in India is surely a good starting point for the communion and unity we are aiming to achieve at the event. We pray, therefore, that this gathering of Capuchins will strengthen the commitment and contribution of CCMSI to the charism, life and mission of the Capuchins in this region and throughout the world. Below you will find the prayer of preparation for the meeting and an explanation of the logo.
