Capuchins Among the Crow and Cheyenne Peoples in the United States

The Capuchin Province of Detroit in the United States of America has two fraternities on indigenous reservations: one with the Crow people and the other with the Cheyenne people in the state of Montana. For many decades, our brothers have provided a Catholic presence among these two groups of Native Americans. The friars run the parishes and participate in the work of the mission schools. Maintaining a presence there has been a great and demanding challenge due to the culture, the language and the great distance, but they have lived and continue to live with a true missionary spirit. We thank God for the many friars – both past and present – who have given their lives in this service. And we pray to the Lord that still more friars may hear this missionary call.
