Capuchin Brother Collaborates on the Nativity Scene at the Vatican

For Christmas 2022, one of our brothers had the opportunity, along with other renowned artists, to collaborate on the Nativity Scene that is placed in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City. Br. Gianni Bordin of the Province of Venice has had a passion for art, particularly painting and wood sculpture, since his youth. After entering the Order, in initial formation he had the  opportunity to accompany and work together with other artists from Trentino and South Tyrol. After being ordained a priest in 1991, he also had the opportunity to train for two years at the "Beato Angelico" School of Art in Milan.

Ten sculptors collaborated on the creation of the Nativity scene at the Vatican where each prepared two pieces of the entire work. Br. Gianni was commissioned to bring to life the  sculpture of the Madonna and that of a child character who completes the manger: he has been working on his two pieces since November 2021 to get everything ready for this Christmas.

Our artist expresses himself as follows: so far "I have worked on simple nativities, but this is the first time I have worked on a work of such great importance, and I have done it in depth, not limiting myself only to aesthetics or outward concerns, but by setting my gaze on the mystery of the Incarnation according to our spirituality as drawn from St. Francis."

Thanks to Br. Gianni!
